History The birth of Manchester United Football Club

The team was first formed under the name Newton Heath Lancashire and Yorkshire Railwaiy F.C. in 1878 as a team by Lancashire and Yorkshire, a train station in Newton Heath. The team shirt is green - gold. They played in a small square on North Road, near Manchester's Piccadilly railway station for fifteen years, before moving to Bank Street in a town near Clayton in 1893.

The team had entered the football competition the previous year and started severing ties with the railway station, becoming an independent company, appointing a secretary of association and splitting "L & YR" from their name to become Newton Heath F.C only. Shortly thereafter, in 1902, the team nearly went bankrupt, with debts of over £ 2,500. Their Bank Street field has been closed.

In January 1902, with a debt of £ 2,670 - equivalent to £ 250,000 per 2014 - the club was presented in a tortuous sequence, Before their team disbanded, they received an investment from J. H. Davies, director of Manchester Breweries. Initially, a team legend, Harry Stafford, who is the team's captain, showcased his St. Bernard, then Davies decided to buy the dog. Stafford refused, but managed to influence Davies to capitalize the team and become team chairman. Held meeting to change the name of the association.

Manchester Central and Manchester Celtic were the proposed names, before Louis Rocca, a young Italian immigrant, said "Gentlemen, why do not we use Manchester United's name?" The name was set and Manchester United officially existed from 26 April 1902. Davies also decided to change the color of the team and was chosen red and white as the color of the Manchester United team.

Ernest Mangnall was appointed secretary of the club to replace James West who resigned on 28 September 1902. Mangnall worked hard to lift the team to Division One and failed on his first attempt, ranks 5th in League Two Division. Mangnall decided to add a number of players into the club and recruit players like Harry Moger, Dick Duckworth, and John Picken, there is also Charlie Roberts who made a big impact.

He purchased £ 750 from Grimsby Town in April 1904, and brought the team into the final three of the season 193-1904. They then promoted to Division One after finishing in two Division Two seasons of 1905-06. Their first season in Division One ended poorly, they were in 8th place. Eventually they won their first league title in 1908. Manchester City is under investigation for paying players above the regulation set by the FA.

They were fined £ 250 and their eighteen punished players should not play for them anymore. United quickly took advantage of this situation, recruiting Billy Meredith and Sandy Turnbull, and others. This new player should not play first before New Year1907, due to a suspension from the FA. They started playing in the 1907-08 season and United took aim at the title at that time. A 2-1 win over Sheffield United started United's ten-game winning streak. But in the end, they close the season with a 9 points advantage of their rivals, Aston Villa.

The club took two years to bring the trophy again, they won the League One Division trophy for the second time in the 1910-11 season. United move into new field Old Trafford. They played their first game at Old Trafford on 19 February 1910 against Liverpool, but they lost 4-3. They did not get the trophy again in the 1911-12 season, they were not supported by Mangnall anymore because he moved to Manchester City after 10 years with United.

After that, they played 41 years without winning a trophy. In 1922, three years after the reopening of football after the First World War, the club was relegated to the Second Division, where it remained until regaining promotion in 1925. Relegated again in 1931, Manchester United became a yo-yo club, reaching the position of all-time 20th-place low in Division II in 1934.

After the death of the club's main benefactor JH Davies in October 1927, the club's finances deteriorated to the extent that Manchester United would likely go bankrupt if not for James W. Gibson, in December in 1931, investing £ 2,000 and in control of the club. In the 1938-39 season, the last year of football before the Second World War, the club finished in 14th position of the First Division.

 ERA SIR MATT BUSBY (1945-1969)

In 1945, Matt Busby was appointed manager of the team based at Old Trafford. He asks for something unusual in his work, such as referring to his own team, choosing players to be recruited by himself and determining the training schedule of the players themselves. He has lost the vacancy of a manager at another club, Liverpool F.C., because the job he wants is perceived by Liverpool's top brassis the job of a director, but United provides an opportunity for his innovative ideas.

First, Busby did not hire players, but an assistant manager named Jimmy Murphy. The decision to appoint Busby as manager was a very appropriate decision, Busby paid the trust of the board by bringing United into second league position in 1947, 1948 and 1949 and winning the FA Cup in 1948. Stan Pearson, Jack Rowley, Allenby Chilton and Charlie Mitten which is great in achieving this United.

Charlie Mitten returned home to Colombia to find better pay, but United's senior player's ability did not go down and again won the First Division title in 1952. Busby knew that the football team needed not only his players experience, so he also thought to include some players young. First of all, young players like Roger Byrne, Bill Foulkes, Mark Jones and Dennis Viollet, needed time to show their best game, as a result United slipped to 8th place in 1953, but the team again won the league in 1956 with a team of average age his player just 22 years old, scored 103 goals.

This policy of young players led him to become one of the most successful managers of Manchester United (mid-1950s, mid-late 1960s and 1990s). Busby has a talented player named Duncan Edwards. The young man from Dudley, West Midlands played his debut at the age of 16 years in 1953. Edwards is said to play in all positions and many who see him playing say he is the best player. The next season, 1956-57, they won the league back and reached the FA Cup final, losing to Aston Villa.

They became the first English team to take part in the European Champions Cup competition, under the FA policy. Last season, the FA canceled Chelsea's right to appear in the Champions Cup. United can reach the semi-finals and then defeated by Real Madrid. On his way to the semi-finals, United also recorded a victory that still shows that they are a great team, defeating Belgium's Belgian champions Amberlecht 10-0 at Maine Road.

The tragedy occurred the following season, when the plane took the team home from a European Champions Cup match to crash while landing in Munich, Germany to refuel. The tragedy of München 1958 on 6 February 1958 claimed the lives of 8 team players - Geoff Bent, Roger Byrne, Eddie Colman, Duncan Edwards, Mark Jones, David Pegg, Tommy Taylor and Liam "Billy" Whelan - and 15 other passengers, including some United staff, Walter Crickmer, Bert Whalley and Tom Curry.

There was 2 landing times before the third fatal error occurred, caused by the unstable speed of the plane due to the mud. United goalkeeper Harry Gregg maintains consciousness during the accident and under the fear of the plane will explode, saving Bobby Charlton and Dennis Viollet by tightening his seat belt. Seven United players left the world on the spot while Duncan Edwards was killed on his way to the hospital. Right wing Johnny Berry also survived the accident, but the injury made his football career finish quickly.

Doctor München said that Matt Busby did not have much hope, but he recovered miraculously and finally got out of hospital after two months of hospitalization. There were rumors that the team would step down from the competition, but Jimmy Murphy took over the manager's position when Busby was hospitalized, the club resumed its competition. Despite the loss of players, they reached the 1958 FA Cup final, where they lost to Bolton Wanderers.

The end of the season, UEFA offered the FA to be able to send United and Wolverhampton Wanderers league champions to participate in the Champions Cup for awards to the victims of the accident, but the FA refused. United hit Wolves the following season and finish the league in second place; not bad for a team that lost nine players due to Munich Tragedy. Busby rebuilt the team in the early decades of the 60s, buying players like Denis Law and Pat Crerand.

Perhaps the most famous of these young players was the Belfast youth named George Best. Best has a very rare keatletikkan. The team won the FA Cup in 1963, although only finished 19th in Division One. The FA Cup success kept players motivated and lifted the club to second place in 1964, and won the league in 1965 and 1967. United won the 1968 European Champions Cup, beating EusébioSL Benfica's team 4-1 in the final, becoming the first Inggis team memenagkan this competition.

United's team at that time had the European Footballer of the Year: Bobby Charlton, Denis Law and George Best. Matt Busby resigned in 1969 and was replaced by reserve team coach, Wilf McGuinness. After a glorious time, United had a tough time when it was handled by Wilf McGuinness, finished eight league games in the 1969-70 season. Then he started the 1970-71 season badly, so McGuinness went back down to coach the reserve team. Busby re-train United, although only 6 months. Under the care of Busby, United got better results, but in the end he left the club in 1971.

In that time, United lost some key players like Nobby Stiles and Pat Crerand. Celtic manager who managed to bring the Champions Cup to Glasgow, Jock Stein, was appointed to fill the position of manager - Stein has agreed to a verbal contract with United, but canceled it. Frank O'Farrell was appointed as Busby's successor.

Like McGuinness, O'Farrell did not last more than 18 months, only difference O'Farrell reacted to overcome United's poor performance by bringing a new face into the club, the most obvious being Martin Buchan's recruit from Aberdeen for £ 125,000. Tommy Docherty became manager at the end of 1972. Docherty, or "Doc", saved United from relegation but United were relegated in 1974, by which time Best, Law and Charlton trio had left the club. Denis Law moved to Manchester City in the summer of 1973.

Players like Lou Macari, Stewart Houston and Brian Greenhoff were recruited to replace Best, Law and Charlton, but did not earn anything. The team won promotion in its first year in Division Two, with the role of talented young player Steve Coppell who played well in his first season with United, joining from Tranmere Rovers. United reached the 1976 FA Cup Final but they lost to Southampton. They reached the final again in 1977 and beat Liverpool 2-1. In this success, Docherty was dismissed for being known to have a relationship with his physiotherapy wife. Dave Sexton replaced Docherty in the summer of 1977 and made the team play more defensively.

This style of play is not favored supporters, they prefer the style of attacking Docherty and Busby. Some players bought Sexton like Joe Jordan, Gordon McQueen, Gary Bailey and Ray Wilkins, but could not lift United into the top flight, only once in second place finish, and only once qualified for the FA Cup final, beaten by Arsenal. Not earning the title, Sexton was fired in 1981, although he won his last seven games. He replaced flamboyant manager Ron Atkinson. He broke the transfer record in England by buying Bryan Robson from West Brom. Robson is said to be the best midfielder after Duncan Edwards left.

Tim Atkinson has new players like Jesper Olsen, Paul McGrath and Gordon Strachan playing alongside Norman Whiteside and Mark Hughes. United won the FA Cup 2 times in 3 years, in 1983 and 1985, and was seeded to win the league season 1985-86 after winning its first 10 league games, spanning 10 points with closest rivals until October 1986. United's appearance then became bad and United ended the season in the order of 4 standings. United's poor results continued until the end of the season and with poor results at the end of the relegation border, in November 1986, Atkinson was fired.

 ERA ALEX FERGUSON (1986-2013)

Alex Ferguson came from Aberdeen to replace Atkinson and lead the club to 11th. The following season, the 1987-88 season, United finished the league in second, with Brian McClair scoring 20 league goals after George Best. United had a difficult time next 2 seasons. With the purchase of players who are quite a lot, Ferguson can not meet the expectations of supporters. Alex Ferguson had been in danger of dismissal in the early 1990s, but a goal from Mark Robins brought United to a 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest in the third FA Cup.

This left Ferguson with a save and eventually United won the FA Cup, beating Crystal Palace in the final round. United won the European Cup Winners in 1990-91, beating the Spanish champions that season, Barcelona in the final, but disappointing the following season because in their league lost to rival Leeds United. The arrival of Eric Cantona in November 1992 was a crucial step for United at the time. Cantona mingle with the players and win the FA Cup Final to make MU become the second winner in the league and FA Cup. Ferguson angered fans for selling several players.

Some of them were directly elected to the English national team. Surprisingly, United again won double in the 1995-96 season. This is the first time the English club has won double twice and finally they have called Double Double. They won the league season 1996-97 and Eric Cantona declared his retirement from a soccer ballaan professional at age 30. They started the 1997-98 season well, but ended the league in second place, under the winner of two titles, Arsenal.

The 1998-99 season for Manchester United was the most successful season because they managed to become the only British team to ever win the Treble (three titles in a season) - by winning the English Premier League, FA Cup and UEFA Champions League in the same season. After passing through the hectic Premiership, Manchester United won the league in their last game against Tottenham Hotspur 2-1, when Arsenal won 1-0 at Aston Villa.

Winning the Premiership is the first part of United's treble, called Ferguson the hardest part. In the FA Cup final they meet Newcastle United and win 2-0 through goals from Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes. In their last game of the season, the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final, they beat Bayern Munich, the match was touted as the best comeback ever, losing to injury time and scoring twice in the last minute to seal victory 2 -1. Manchester United also won the Intercontinental Cup after beating Palmeiras 1-0 in Tokyo.

United won the league in 2000 and 2001, but they failed to regain the European competition trophy. In 2000, Manchester United became one of the 14 founders of the G-14 group. Ferguson adopted a defensive style and remained unsuccessful in European competition and United finished the league in third place. They regained the league title the following season and started the season very well, but their performances worsened when Rio Ferdinand received an 8-month suspension for failing a doping test. They won the 2004 FA Cup, after beating Millwall. 2004-05 season, United's goal productivity is reduced, caused by injury Ruud van Nistelrooy and United finish the season without a single degree.

This time, the FA Cup was won by Arsenal who beat United on penalties. Off the field, the main story is the possibility of the club being taken over by the other side and at the end of the season, Malcolm Glazer, a Tampa businessman, has owned United. United made a poor start to the 2005-06 season with Roy Keane joining Celtic after United had been heavily criticized by the public and the club failed to get past the Champions League knock-out stage for the first time in a decade after losing to Benfica's Portugal side. This season is a bad season for United because of their key players such as, Gabriel Heinze, Alan Smith, Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes injury. They won just one title that season, the League Cup, beating Wigan Athletic's promotion team with a 4-0 score. United secured second place in the league and qualified automatically for the Champions League after beating Charlton Athletic 4-0.

End of the 2005-06 season, one of the key strikers, Ruud van Nistelrooy, leaves the club and joins Real Madrid, as his relationship with Alex Ferguson cracks. The 2006-07 season showed United's attacking style as it did in the decade of the 90s, scoring 20 more goals in 32 games. In January 2007, United got Henrik Larsson on loan for two months from Helsingborgs, and the player had an important role in United's Champions League achievement, in hopes of grabbing a second Treble; but after reaching the semi-finals, United lost to A.C. Milan 3-5 (aggregate).

In the 50th anniversary of Manchester United's participation in European competition, as well as the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, Manchester United played against Marcello Lippi and the European team XI at Old Trafford on 13 March 2007. United won the 4-3 game. Four years after their last title, United regained the league title on May 6, 2007, after Chelsea drew with Arsenal, leaving the Blues seven points behind with 2 matches, followed by United's 1-0 win in the Manchester Derby the previous day, United to his ninth Premiership title in 15 years of his existence. However, they could not reach their fourth double, as Chelsea beat United 1-0 in the 2007 FA Cup final which took place at the new Wembley Stadium. On May 11, 2008, United again won the league title after beating Wigan 2-0 in the final game to secure the title, followed by a Champions League title on 21 May 2008 which was won by beating Chelsea 6-5 in the final on penalties after playing series 1 -1 in normal time 2x45 minutes and 2x15 minute extension time.

With the status as Champions League champion, United are entitled to the FIFA Club World Cup 2008 and won the tournament after beating Gamba Osaka 5-3 in the semi-finals and LDU Quito 1-0 in the final. United became the second European club to become world champion after AC Milan in 2007. A year after UEFA Champions League final in 2008,

Manchester United re-entry into the final in 2009. Manchester United then suffered defeat in UEFA Champions League final 2008-09, when faced Barcelona with a score of 2 - 0 in Rome, Italy. The 2009-10 season was not a good season, as it only earned the League Cup title, only finishing second, and was knocked out in the Champions League by Bayern München. The next season United won the top league title for the 19th time, passing Liverpool with 18 league titles, after a 1-1 draw at Blackburn for the title with Chelsea.

In Europe, United won a runner-up medal after being hit by troops Pep Guardiola, Barcelona 3-1. In that season, United lost Gary Neville, Owen Hargreaves, Paul Scholes and Edwin van der Sar. In the 2011-12 season, United got a great win over Arsenal 8-2 at Old Trafford, but a massive defeat of Manchester City 1-6 in the same spot. The game against Sunderland (United's 1-0) is history for United, especially Sir Alex who has been officially 25 years with United. North Stand was officially renamed Sir Alex Ferguson Stand. In that season also United did not make it through the last 16 of the Champions League after defeated Basel 1-2 in Switzerland. United also did not make it through the quarter-finals of the Europa League after being toppled by Athletic Bilbao. In the domestic, United washed out Crystal Palace 1-2 at home in the League Cup. United also suffered a 1-2 defeat at Anfield in the FA Cup.

2013- UNTIL NOW

On 8 May 2013, Ferguson announced that he will retire as manager at the end of the season, but he will remain at the club as director and ambassador of the club. The club announced the following day that the former manager of Everton. David Moyes will replace Ferguson from 1 July 2013, after signing a six-year deal.

On April 22, 2014, United announced that David Moyes had left the club. On 19 May 2014 Louis van Gaalresmi replaced Moyes as coach. Van Gaal was finally fired at the end of his second season coaching United. José Mourinho was appointed United manager on May 27 with a three-year contract.

STADION MANCHESTER UNITED

Old Trafford, dubbed "The Theater of Dreams" by Sir Bobby Charlton, has been United's headquarters since 1910, although from 1941 to 1949, the club shared Maine Road with local rivals Manchester City after the devastation caused by World War II bombings.

Old Trafford underwent several expansions in the 1990s and 2000s, including the addition of additional levels in the North, West and East Tribune, which made the stadium a return to its original capacity of 80,000. Future expansions may include second tier additions in the South Tribune, which can increase capacity to 90,000. The stadium's record attendance was recorded in 1939, when 76,962 people attended the FA Cup semifinals between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Grimsby Town.

Old Trafford hosted the FA Cup semifinals, the English matches, the 1966 World Cup and the 1996 European Championships and the 2003 UEFA Champions League Final, as well as the annual rugby league matches, the Super League Grand Final and two Rugby League World Cup finals. The stadium also hosts the football branches of the 2012 Summer Olympics, including women's international football for the first time in its history.
