SOUTHERN LIGA (1905-20)

Crystal Palace Football Club was formed on 10 September 1905 to play at Aston Villa with claret and blue colors. The choice of color is the result of an important role in the club formation played by Edmund Goodman, an Aston Villa employee recommended to the young club by Villa chairman William McGregor.

Goodman organized the club's business side and managed the team from 1907 to 1925. A former amateur player with Villa, Goodman has lost his right leg after injury caused an amputation. Goodman hired John Robson from Middlesbrough to become team manager.

Robson has turned the previous club from an amateur side to the established First Division Soccer team. Along with other newly formed Chelsea clubs Chelsea, the Palace is registered to join the Second Division Football League. But unfortunately for the Palace, it was Chelsea who accepted, and the Palace was forced to occupy a place in the Second Division of the Southern League.

To increase the number of club fixtures, they also joined the United Counties League midweek. Robson formed a team of sixteen professionals, most of whom were taken from Middlesbrough. The club's premier campaign, which consists mainly of the reserve team of another club in addition to Southall, Southern United, St. Leonards United and Grays United succeed.

Their opening match interviews Southampton, and about 3,000 people pay 6d for standing or shilling to sit. Palace lead 3-0 after 30 minutes, before fading and losing 3-4. However, it was the club's only defeat in the league throughout the season, and Palace won the championship and was promoted to the Southern League First Division.

This season includes seven consecutive wins, one of which is a 9-1 win over Grays United. The attendance attendance for this season is regularly between 2,000 and 3,000 although 4,000 people attended a 4-0 defeat of ReserveWatford in March. After their championship victory, Palace started their second season as club in the First Division of the Southern League, placing 19 at the end this season but enjoyed a better performance in the FA Cup.

Defeating Rotherham County in a qualifying match, the Palace was then drawn to Newcastle United in the first half appropriately. Newcastle had played in two previous FA Cup finals, became league champions in 1905 and on the way to another championship.

In what still stands as one of the greatest clubs ever to win, Crystal Palace scored through Horace Astley against the game and then held off Newcastle to come away with a shocking 1-0 win. The second and third round saw the Palace get rid of Fulham and Brentford respectively, the latter after a replay, and the quarter-finals saw the Palace merged at home to Everton First Division club, currently flying high in second place.

In front of a 35,000 record crowd, the Palace took the lead, but their opponents leveled for a rematch, where Everton proved too strong, almost winning 4-0. John Robson left the Palace to manage Croydon Common FC's neighbors for the 1907-08 season, and Edmund Goodman took over as club manager and secretary.

The club has a good season, finishing fourth. Bill Davies became the first player of the club to gain international honor when called to Wales. The club can not maintain their league form in the next season, completing the league in sixteen disappointing places. In the FA Cup they fell to their heaviest defeat, a second-round replay to Burnley which finished 0-9, a record defeat to the Palace and a record victory for Burnley.

The Palace finished fourth again the following season, losing just one game in the first twelve, and repeating their fourth finish again the following season, with the presence of a league as high as 12,000. The club won the London Challenge Cup in 1913, tackling West Ham United 1-0.

After finishing seventh and fifth, the Palace enjoyed a fine performance in the 1913-14 season, the club incorporated some unbeaten runs and finished the runner-up season to Swindon Town with an average of goals. They also retained the London Challenge Cup, beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Highbury, and giving the first England Representative at Horace Colclough, who played in the team that beat Wales in Cardiff on 16 March. After the outbreak of the First World War on 4 August 1914, the Palace had three players called as Reserviss before the season began.

Former court players Ginger Williams and Joe Bulcock were among those killed in the conflict. In March 1915, The Admiralty, who had taken over the Palace and his compound at the start of the war, ordered the club to leave. The palace chose to move to Herne Hill Stadium, but the 1918-19 season found the Palace in a new place.

Croydon Common failed to return to business after the war, and that was their land, The Nest across from Selhurst Station, that Crystal Palace is now moving. The palace finished this season without a win in the last nine games, ending in seventh place, building that position for a third finish the following year.

NEW ERA (2010 AND SO ON) The CPFC 2010

Consortium, comprising entrepreneurs Steve Parish, Martin Long, Stephen Browett and Jeremy Hosking, appointed former Scotland boss George Burley as the club's new manager for the 2010-11 season, with Freedman staying at the club as his assistant. The club is short of players, with some members of the squad from previous seasons have left.

One of Burley's first players to bridge this gap is former Dutch midfielder Edgar Davids. The palace started badly in the league, however, and in November sits down, with Davids departing after less than impressive performances for the club. The form of the away club in the first half of the season was bad and the heavy South London derby defeat to Millwall on New Year's Day made Burley fired, with the second Palace from below on the Championship table.

Dougie Freedman was appointed manager, Lennie Lawrence was brought in as his assistant to provide a much needed experience, and the duo managed to lead the Palace safely with a game to be balanced. In the midst of managerial changes from Burley to Freedman, the club announced plans to move the club back to the Crystal Palace National Sports Center, built on the club's original home, which rebuilt it to 25,000 seats, built for the Ball Stadium.

The next season started well, with a League Cup run that left the Palace defeating Crawley Town, Wigan Athletic and Middlesbrough, and by the end of October the club came in third in the league. The League Cup win over Southampton made the quarter-final match at Manchester United.

The league form began to slip though and the Palace went six games without scoring immediately before the match at Old Trafford. Entering the tie as an underdog, a 35-yard free kick from Darren Ambrose and an extra time header from Glenn Murray saw the Palace win at Old Trafford for the first time in 22 years.

The club then announced a potential plan to update the club's image through a new badge. On the pitch, the league form remains uneven, and the League Cup semi-final ends with a penalty kick in Cardiff. Palace finished the season in seventeenth place, an improvement in the previous season.

The 2012-13 season saw Freedman take over for third season - eighth consecutive club in the Championship - before setting out to manage Bolton on 23 October. After a temporary tenure of Lennie Lawrence and Curtis Fleming, Ian Holloway was appointed on 3 November, and his first game in charge was a 5-0 home win against Ipswich Town which put the club on the table.

The poor result at the end of the season made the Palace scraped the playoff game with a 5th place finish. They played Brighton in the semi-finals, clinching a 2-0 home win after a 0-0 draw at Selhurst in the first leg; Both goals are scored by Wilfried Zaha. The Palace met Watford at Wembley in the Final, and a 1-0 win over Kevin Phillips's penalty was awarded for a foul on Zaha.

A clearance away from Joel Ward in the last minute ensured the Eagles promotion back to the Premier League after an eight-year hiatus. In October of 2013-14 season, Holloway quit as manager, with the club having only three points from its first eight games of the season. He was replaced by former Stoke City manager Tony Pulis, who led the team to safety. Pulis then resigned just two days before the start of the 2014-15 season.

Neil Warnock returned to the club for a second term as manager, but was sacked on December 27 with the club in the relegation zone. In January 2015, former court player Alan Pardew was confirmed as the new manager, signing a three and a half year contract with the club after a £ 3.5m compensation package was agreed with Newcastle United.

Under Pardew, the club won eight games from twelve people in the new year, which eventually secured security in the middle of the table and in its third consecutive season in the Premier League. The following season saw the club reach their first FA Cup final for 26 years. Manchester United will again be the opposition, who lost in court at the end of 1990.

The court will suffer another defeat 2-1 after extra time. Pardew was sacked on December 22, 2016 after a poor result and the following day Sam Allardyce was appointed manager of a new club signing a 2½ year contract. Allardyce left the club two days after the end of the 2016-17 season for personal reasons.

On 26 June 2017, former Dutch international Frank de Boer signed a three-year contract to become the club's first permanent permanent manager but was fired having lost all four of his first matches. He was replaced by former England manager Roy Hodgson, who at the age of 70 became the oldest person appointed in Premier League history.
