Throughout the history of football in England and Europe, Chelsea have won six Premier League titles, seven FA Cups, five League Cups, one UEFA Champions League trophy, two UEFA Champions League Winners, one UEFA European Championship and one UEFA Super Cup.
In the last two decades has been the best period of Chelsea's success by winning 22 titles since 1997, including for the first time winning the Double winner, English Premier League and FA Cup in 2010 and UEFA Champions League titles in 2012 and UEFA Europa League on 2013.
Chelsea's main costume is a royal blue T-shirt and pants with white socks. The combination has been used since the 1960s. The club's emblem has been changed several times in an effort to modernize and change the imagery. The currently used symbol, which features a ceremonial lion holding a stick, is a modification of the symbol used in the 1950s. Since 2003, Chelsea is owned by Roman Abramovich a Russian billionaire.
In 2016, Chelsea ranked seventh in the world's most valuable football club by Forbes magazine, worth £ 1.15 billion ($ 1.66 billion). The average number of league audiences in the 2016-17 season home game was 41,507, the sixth highest in the Premier League. HISTORY OF CHELSEA In 1904 H.A. Mears acquired the Stamford Bridge athletics stadium with the goal of turning into a soccer stadium. He then planned the establishment of a new football club after an offer given to Fulham to use the stadium was rejected.
Given there is a club named Fulham, the name of Chelsea which is a small town adjacent to the stadium was chosen as the name of the new club. Other names such as Kensington FC, Stamford Bridge FC and London FC were considered for selection. Chelsea was founded on March 10, 1905 in a pub The Rising Sun (now The Butcher's Hook restaurant) and first played in the Football League competition.
John Robertson a 28-year-old Scottish national player when it was chosen concurrently Chelsea's first player-manager position. A number of players were recruited from various clubs to strengthen the team, such as goalkeeper William "Fatty" Foulke from Sheffield United, Jimmy Windridge and Bob McRoberts from Small Heath, and Frank Pearson from Manchester City.
Their first match took place on 2 September 1905, an away game against Stockport County. Chelsea lost by a score of 0-1. While their first home game is a 4-0 victory in a friendly against Liverpool. Robertson was also Chelsea's first goalscorer in a competitive match in a 1-0 victory over Blackpool. Chelsea suffered a number of degraded promotions in Division One and Second Division Premier League after successfully reaching promotion to Division One in their second season.
Their best achievement in the early years was to reach the 1915 FA Cup Final but beaten Sheffield United at Old Trafford and ending the First Division in the final three of the 1920s. Chelsea has a reputation for bringing in famous players and a large audience, but success has not yet approached them during World War I and II. Former Arsenal and England striker Ted Drake became manager in 1952.
Drake began to modernize the club both on and off the pitch. He replaced the Chelsea pensioner logo, upgraded the training system and coaching the young teams, and strengthened the depth of the team with the shrewdness of bringing in a number of players from the bottom divisions and amateur leagues to successfully bringing Chelsea to their first championship trophy, the Premier League First Division title 1954-55.
In the following season, UEFA held championships between league champions in Europe, the Champions Cup, but the disagreement of the authority of the English Football League and the FA made Chelsea withdraw from the championship before it started. CHELsea failed to continue the success and only became the mid-table league in the decade of the 1950s.
Drake was fired in 1961 and replaced by Tommy Docherty who also doubles as player-manager positions. Chelsea returned to Premier League champions 50 years later, in 2005, in the tenure of manager José Mourinho (2004 - 2007), who at the time was fully supported by Russian oil billionaire owner Roman Abramovich.
In the same year (2005), Chelsea also won the Carling Cup by beating Liverpool. Next in 2006, Chelsea again won the Premier League. And in 2007, Chelsea also again managed to win the Cup Carlings after beating Arsenal 2-1 and became FA Cup champion after beating Manchester United 1-0 through the round of extension time. But due to some poor performances at the start of the 2007-08 season plus the incompatibility with the owner, José Mourinhom eventually resigned from the manager's position, and was subsequently replaced by Avram Grant for the Israeli national team manager. At the beginning of Grant's lifetime, many people looked at him in the eye.
However, Avram Grant was able to bring Chelsea into a treble runner-upyaitu in the Carling Cup before beaten Tottenham Hotspur with a score of 2-1. Followed to runner-up English Premier League under Manchester United and runner-up in the Champions League after losing 6-5 on penalties from Manchester United. But the achievement is considered not good enough so that Grant was forced to be fired at the end of the season.
In late January 2009, Avram Grant was replaced by Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari. However, Scolari is also not able to provide satisfactory achievement. So at the end of April 2009 suffered the same fate with Grant. The vacant position of the Chelsea manager was then filled by then Russia coach Guus Hiddink until the end of the 2008-09 season. At the end of May, before leaving Chelsea, Guus Hiddink gave sweet memories with Chelsea's fifth FA Cup title.
Beginning of the 2009-10 season, Chelsea announced Carlo Ancelotti as the new manager, with a contract period of 3 seasons. Ancelotti immediately gave the title by bringing Chelsea won the Community Shield in 2009 after beating Manchester United in a penalty shootout. The win in the penalty shoot-out was Chelsea's first time since 1998, as Chelsea face Ipswich Town in the League Cup.
At the end of the season, Chelsea won the English Premier League and FA Cup, which was the first achievement in Chelsea's history. Chelsea also became the seventh club who managed to get a record of marrying the Double winner title. Chelsea striker Didier Drogba managed to get the Golden Boot as Top Scorer with 29 goals scored. In the last league game on May 9, 2010, Chelsea humiliated Wigan with a score of 8-0 with Drogba scored 3 goals.
Chelsea also scored a 100% absolute winning streak against all four major Premier League teams (Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal). In his second season, Ancelotti sacked Chelsea in May 2011 after a 1-0 defeat of Everton in the final game of the 2010-11 season. At the start of the 2011-12 season, André Villas-Boas was appointed as Chelsea coach.
After a number of bad results experienced by Chelsea, Villas-Boas was fired in March 2012. His assistant Roberto Di Matteo who is a former Chelsea player is then appointed as ad interim main coach. Under direction Di Matteo Chelsea showed impressive results with winning the FA Cup title for the seventh time and UEFA Champions League for the first time in the club's history-which also became the first London club to win the title.
Di Matteo then replaced by Rafael Benítez who was contracted until the end of the 2012-13 season and won the 2012-13 UEFA Europa League, Chelsea became the first English club to win all four European trophies. In the 2013-14 season, José Mourinh returned to Chelsea and was contracted for 4 seasons. Then, in the 2014-15 season Chelsea won the English Premier League and League Cup.
However, as defending champions Chelsea underwent a season 2015-16 with a bad and make the sacking manager José Mourinho. Chelsea again appointed Guus Hiddink as manager of "ad interim" until the end of the season. Before the 2015-16 season ends, Chelsea have announced Antonio Conte as manager contracted for 3 seasons, starting from the 2016-17 season. Antonio Contendi became the fifth Chelsea manager to come from Italy after Gianluca Vialli, Claudio Ranieri, Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Di Matteo.
